eThings

Some almost formed thoughts on the eBook/eAudio experience, using Jane Austen as the subject...

- Searching through the catalog vs. netLibrary makes a big difference. I found the catalog far more accessible. I was impressed with the solid mix of criticism and the actual novels.
- Found getting to the actual item a little more confusing. My first instinct is to request the item, not go to the link to access it via the database.
- Navigating netLibrary is pretty easy. I think the dictionary feature is especially nice.

I don't see using this much myself (I'd rather have the book in my hands), but I can understand why patrons find it useful.

  1. Indeed, a book-in-the-hand is worth...well, a LOT! I haven't found reading a book online all that tempting yet either, however, I DO like e-audio and the idea of getting a good book on my ipod for vacation this summer is uber-appealing. Though I confess, my exploration of e-audio ended up with mean error message on my computer so it's back to the drawing board.

  2. I still haven't gotten around to this. I think I'm gonna go for one of the language learning titles / Pimsleur, if I can...thanks for the reminder that I need to get moving. :)
